Nature reponds to your actions

During this time of corona outbreak and its subsequent consequences there are lots of questions. The question is within this overwhelming whirlwind of doubts, challenges and accusations, what is God doing? Why has He sent this Corona? Is He really compassionate? Or is nature more powerful than God?

The Vedic scriptures give us some hints on how to understand God's involvement in such natural disasters. Let us see below how scriptures answer these questions.

Srimad Bhagavatam 2.10.45 states "There is no direct engineering by the Lord for the creation and destruction of the material world. What is described in the Vedas about His direct interference is simply to counteract the idea that material nature is the creator."

nāsya karmaṇi janmādau
parasyānuvidhīyate
kartṛtva-pratiṣedhārthaṁ
māyayāropitaṁ hi tat

In other words, the Supreme is not directly involved in the workings of the Material Nature (prakriti)

  •  As Vedas explain, material nature (prakriti) is operating on its own, without the interference of outside forces - but with the supervision of God.
  • God's supervision does not mean to impose, control, interfere or react to the ways of the world.
  • What to speak of God! Even nature (prakriti) does not exercise spiteful revenge out of anger.
  • Mother nature simply responds to people as per how they treat her; if one abuses nature, they experience abuse themselves. For example, if one puts their finger in a fire and it burns, the burning is not because the fire wanted to punish them - it is just the nature of fire to burn. Similarly, nature (prakriti) responds to whatever one chooses to do.
  • All our pain is caused by our own irresponsible behaviour and blaming God is unreasonable.
  • The only unalloyed will of Krishna is to not exploit his dear nature (prakriti).

The Vedic scriptures teaches us to be thoughtful at the experience of suffering and grateful to Krishna at the experience of happiness.

From the platform of Shraddha to Prema

When asakti or deep attachment for Sri Shyamsundar intensifies greatly, it is called Bhava, which further progresses into Prem, unalloyed unprecedented, unrestrained, fathomless pure love which eternally flows in an uninterrupted stream like that of honey towards the object of love, Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar. Reaching this platform, the sadhaka finds a moment's separation from the Lord like 12 years and the entire universe to be null and void in the absence of Govinda. This has been expressed by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Sri Shikshashtakam, yugayitam nimeshena chakshusha pravrishayitam shunyayitam jagat sarvam govinda-virahena me O Govinda! Feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence. In this exalted stage, the sadhaka serves the Lord both internally and externally, as directed by Srila Rupa Goswami, ...

Sunday Meditation: Why worship God when He is everywhere

Sri Udupi Krishna at Udupi Have you heard the classic argument ? God is everywhere, so there is no need to worship Him in a temple. But if He is everywhere then He is also in the temple. Once Devaki, the mother of Lord Krishna requested to Him as follows: "My dear Krishna, I have the honour of being glorified as your mother, but I never saw your sweet pastimes of growing up in Gokul. As soon as you were born you were taken away". Desiring to please His mother, Krishna immediately took the form of baby Gopal and allowed His mother to taste the divine sweetness of these lilas or pastimes. However, Rukmini, His queen saw this form and said, "My Lord, although I am your queen, I am very attracted to this form of baby Gopal. Could you please give me a deity so that I can worship Him to my heart's content"? Krishna gladly agreed. For centuries this form was later kept in a mound of Gopi-chandan. And it was this huge mound that was kept in a ship bound for ...

Kṛṣṇa kills Tṛṇāvarta

A servant of King Kaḿsa, known as Tṛṇāvarta, as instructed by Kaḿsa, appeared there in the shape of a whirlwind. He picked up the child Kṛṣṇa on his shoulders and raised a great dust storm all over Vrindavan, covering everyone's eyes. The Tṛṇāvarta demon went high into the sky with baby Kṛṣṇa on his shoulder, but the baby assumed such a weight that suddenly he could not go any further, and he had to stop his whirlwind activities. Due to Kṛṣṇa's weight, Tṛṇāvarta considered him to be like a great mountain or a hunk of iron. But because Kṛṣṇa had caught the demon's neck, the demon was unable to throw Him off. He therefore thought of the child as wonderful, since he could neither bear the child nor cast aside the burden. With Kṛṣṇa grasping him by the throat, Tṛṇāvarta choked, unable even to make a sound or move his hands and legs. His eyes popping out, the demon lost his life and fell, along with the little boy, down to the ground of Vrndavana. While the gopīs wh...
